Criminalistics is the forensic science of analyzing and interpreting evidence using the natural sciences. Criminalists (aka Forensic Science Technicians) use the science of criminalistics to solve crimes by using physical evidence to provide a link between a suspect and the victim.

Emphasis is on coordination of physical evidence with the scientific laboratory and the practical analysis of evidence in a criminal forensic laboratory. Topics include photography, fingerprints, and other impressions; ballistics, documents and handwriting, blood pattern analysis, glass, and hair; and drug analysis.
